Tree Sparrow – a Hampshire “Mega”

Over the past week I’ve had several more patch ticks when visiting my patch. Earlier in the week I visited the canal path by Bridge Street in Titchfield and added 3 more species to the list – Swallow, Stock Dove (this time it flew over my patch instead of being in the field near by!) and a Green Sandpiper but the highlight of the week has to be the Tree Sparrow I saw today.

I’m told that Tree Sparrow are very rare in Hampshire. They haven’t bred in the county for 6 years and haven’t even been seen for several years!  The bird was showing well for most of the time I was there and was with House Sparrows which was a good comparison.
