I think it’s safe to say that the vast majority of my “twitching” expeditions are to my patch, but sometimes the birds just don’t play ball. A hoopoe had turned up in Hampshire on Friday, a bird I was keen to see. I couldn’t get there on Friday due to lectures, and on Saturday I went to my patch instead. By Sunday the bird was still there so Mum and I headed over.
When we arrived we weren’t filled with much hope as another birder was leaving after no luck, however, it was worth a try. It was a good job we did try, as it turned out the bird had reappeared and was right on the bridleway in front of us. Very good views were had. I wish I’d brought my scope to digiscope it up close. Not bad for my first Hoopoe!
